"2009 Annual B.F.A. Exhibition"

April 18 through May 16, 2009

The exhibition featured work by more than 100 candidates for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute, majoring in animation, art history, ceramics, creative writing, design, digital filmaking, fiber, interdisciplinary arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

"Stairway to Heaven: From Chinese Streets to Monuments and Skyscrapers"

Jan. 17 through April 4, 2009

The show of contemporary Chinese art analyzing the changing streets of China, featured responses to traditional monuments and the unparalleled growth of skyscrapers within the context of a cultural transformation. Artists included Ai Weiwei, Chen Shaoxiong, Wenda Gu, Gu Zheng, Hong Lei, Liang Weiping, Liu Bolin, Lu Yuanmin, Luo Yongjin, Ma Liuming, Wang Jing, Weng Fen, Xing Danwen, Yang Yongliang, Yening, Zhang Dali, and Zhu Feng.

"Kansas City Design Flatfile"

Featuring important and innovative architectural design from the region, the "Design Flatfile" was co-organized by the Artspace and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Kansas City and presented in conjunction with AIA’s Central States Annual Conference. The exhibition adapted the successful and highly popular flatfile concept to create an exhibition that engages design professionals, artists and a broad general public with architectural design from a range of practitioners from Kansas City and beyond.

"Political Persuasion: Street Posters for Barack Obama"

Consisting of a selection of posters from Professor Hal Wert’s private collection, the exhibition focused on the artistic endeavors of a young and rogue generation of artists responding to the current political landscape and is not intended as an endorsement of any presidential candidate.

"New, Three: 2008 Kansas City Art Institute Faculty"

This biennial exhibition introduced recent work by artists who have joined the Kansas City Art Institute's faculty in the past three years. The artists featured in the exhibition included: Brian Collier (interdisciplinary arts), Kim Eichler-Messmer (fiber), Julie Farstad (painting), Jessie Fisher (painting), Jamie Gray (graphic design), Diana Heise (digital filmmaking and photography), Tracy Krumm (fiber), Tom Lewis (foundation), Daniel Reneau (painting), Miguel Rivera (printmaking), Steven Roberts (foundation), Liz Van Verth (animation), and James Woodfill (painting).
